Estimated Time

First-run wizard takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete. Most time spent on automatic hardware detection scan.

Network Access

Connecting During Setup

The first-run wizard includes network configuration:

Ethernet (Recommended)
Connect ethernet cable before powering on. Wizard detects connection and configures via DHCP automatically. No additional setup required.
WiFi
Select your network from list in wizard. Enter password using touchscreen keyboard. Device connects and verifies internet access.

Access from Other Devices

  • Port 3042 must not be blocked by firewall for remote access

Hardware Integration

Hardware Detection During Setup

First-run wizard includes 30-45 second hardware detection scan that searches for USB sensors, RS-485 Modbus controllers, and network devices. Detected hardware is listed in wizard completion screen.

Supported Connection Types

After Initial Setup

To add additional hardware after completing first-run wizard:

  1. Connect new device to Symcod W101M via USB or network
  2. Dashboard → Settings → Hardware → Scan for Devices

Device Compatibility

Not all sensors and controllers are automatically detected. Some devices require manual configuration or driver installation. Check compatibility list at greenreachgreens.com/docs/hardware before purchasing.

Recipe-Based Automation

Light Engine automates your farm using research-validated grow recipes - no manual programming required:

How Recipe Automation Works

Choose a crop recipe (lettuce, basil, tomatoes, etc.) and Light Engine automatically controls lights, temperature, humidity, and irrigation based on research-validated schedules. Environmental targets adjust automatically as crops progress through growth stages.

60+ Research-Validated Recipes

Light Engine includes professionally-developed crop recipes with complete automation for all environmental controls. Sample recipes include:

Leafy Greens
Buttercrunch Lettuce, Bibb Butterhead, Romaine, Arugula, Watercress, Tatsoi, Mizuna, Komatsuna
Brassicas
Lacinato Kale, Red Russian Kale, Swiss Chard, Bloomsdale Spinach
Herbs
Genovese Basil, Thai Basil, Santo Cilantro, Italian Parsley, Greek Oregano, Common Thyme, Rosemary, Sage, Chervil, Marjoram, Dill, Sorrel, Lovage
Specialty Greens
Frisée Endive, Escarole Batavian, Salad Bowl Oakleaf, Mei Qing Pak Choi
Tomatoes
Better Boy, Celebrity, Brandywine, Heatmaster F1, San Marzano, Sun Gold
Strawberries
Albion, Chandler, Tribute, Tristar, Seascape, Sequoia, Monterey, Eversweet, Ozark Beauty, Fort Laramie, Mara de Bois, Jewel

Each recipe includes day-by-day targets for: light spectrum (blue/green/red/far-red %), PPFD intensity, photoperiod, temperature, VPD, max humidity, nutrient EC, and pH levels.

How to Activate a Recipe

1
Add Crop
Tap Dashboard → Add Crop button
2
Choose Recipe
Select from 60+ research-validated recipes
3
Assign Room
Select which grow room to apply recipe
4
Set Start Date
When did you plant/transplant?
5
Automation Starts
All controls activate immediately based on recipe
What Gets Automated
  • Light Schedule - On/off times and intensity (PPFD) adjust automatically
  • Temperature Control - Exhaust fans, heaters activate to maintain target range
  • Humidity Control - Dehumidifiers, misters maintain target relative humidity
  • VPD Optimization - Balances temperature and humidity for ideal vapor pressure deficit
  • Growth Stage Transitions - Environmental targets change as crop matures (seedling → veg → flower → harvest)
  • Irrigation Schedules - Watering frequency and duration based on crop needs

Monitoring Recipe Performance

Dashboard shows real-time performance vs recipe targets:

Automatic Backups

Your farm data is automatically backed up - no setup required:

Local Backups
Daily backup to USB drive (if plugged in) or internal storage
Cloud Backups (Optional)
Enable cloud backups in Settings for off-site protection
Version History
Keeps last 30 days of backups - restore from any date
One-Click Restore
Restore from backup in Settings → Backups → Restore

What Gets Backed Up

Plug in USB Drive for Local Backups
